BUTTERFLY SCHOOLS' INVITATION INTERNATIONAL

EmilyBates is crowned Queen with Tin Tin Ho, Lewis Gray is King with Igor Morais and Helshan Weerasinghe.

A great atmosphere, good sportsmanship, skill, passion and the surroundings all contributed to the success of the Butterfly Schools' Invitation International Championships held at Lilleshall National Sports' Centre from 24th/26th June 2011 staged by the English Schools' Table Tennis Association.

England dominated the Team Championships, taking both first and second place in the Senior Boys', Cadet Boys' and Girls' events and first place in the other competitions.

Wales showed their strength in the Girls' events as silver medalists in the Senior and Intermediate categories with bronze in the Cadets. Ireland were placed second in the Boys' Intermediate event with third places in both Senior Boys and Intermediate Girls. Teams from Scotland, Guernsey, Jersey and the Isle of Man all contributed greatly to the event.

The strength of England in these British Championships was clearly shown in the Individual competitions played in groups followed by a knockout with England taking five of the six titles. Charlotte Carey (Wales) beat Yolanda King in the Intermediate Girls' Final in five games - Angharad Phillips also flew the Welsh flag well to take a silver medal - Scott Barton (Scotland) finishing second in his event. Daniel Basterfield, Marcus Giles, Yolanda King and Emily Bolton (all England) were the other finalists.

This annual event will next be staged in Guernsey in 2012.
